Manual

The DAQ-1212ETM is a unique product in the data acquisition industry. It provides eight channels of analog input and eight channels of analog output, both with 12-bit resolution. Eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs round out the feature set. Symmetrical I/O supports multi-channel DSP on a single plug-in board.

The PC ISA bus is used for maximum compatibility with a wide variety of industrial and dedicated computer systems.

The original member of this family, the DAQ-1212C, offered a wide range of programmable features. In the DAQ-1212E, the input and output voltage ranges are fixed at the time of manufacture and are not programmable at run time, interrupts are not supported, and there is no filtering of the analog signal. However, it is possible to provide various gain settings on special order, including individual channel differences.

Removal of programmability for these features has reduced the production cost significantly, although the operational bandwidth is greatly increased.

The DAQ-1212E is capable of converting 500,000 samples per second of analog input, and of modifying output voltages at the full speed of the ISA bus. Input voltage conversion requires only the writing of the desired channel number and reading back the resulting conversion after two microseconds. Output voltage modification is accomplished through a three-phase procedure. The low order eight bits are written to one address, the high order four bits are written to a second address, and a read operation is performed to transfer the full 12-bits to the output. The digital inputs and outputs are read and written directly, with no additional protocol or handshake requirements.

Modularity is enhanced by the use of socketed D/A converters. The DAQ-1212E may be ordered with all eight input and output channels, or with only four outputs, or none. In addition, for output-only applications, the A/D converter may be omitted. Appropriate cost reductions apply.

All analog inputs and outputs are buffered through operational amplifiers. Connection is made through a DB-37 connector. Four layer construction is used in the fabrication of the printed circuit board to provide an extremely low noise environment with excellent stability and voltage distribution.

The DAQ-1212E is available from inventory in low quantities at USD$695. Larger quantity orders are available with commensurate savings, with a lead time of 8-10 weeks. Custom modification requests are welcome.

Accuracy
Please note that the DAQ-1212E has been designed to emphasize low noise operation, ease of use, reliability and reduced cost. The overall accuracy of any measurement system is best determined by actual measurements on-site that include the errors induced by cabling and any external circuits involved. The DAQ-1212E provides a stable and repeatable result that can be calibrated to the accuracy of an external reference with a simple maintenance program.
