When we attempt to provide a response to a customer's need for a motion control system, we frequently need more information than is readily available in order to provide a sound response.

We have prepared a list of questions that can arise when completing an order. If it looks like too much work, don't worry-just fill out what you know. We can get the rest later.

1. How many motors will be used on the machine?

2. Is there a preference as to motor type?

3. Are all axes the same type?

4. What are the torque requirements on each axis?

5. Is there a preferred method of communication?

6. Preferred motor voltage?

7. Is there a size constraint or preferred outline?

8. What resolution and accuracy requirements exist?

9. What control methods are desired?

10. How many discrete I/O lines are required? In, Out

18. If a lead screw design is proposed, a description of the diameter, length and material will help us calculate the required motor size, if not already known. Also, the mass of the load and estimated friction.

19. What is the maximum bandwidth required for the control loop?

20. Is there a need for non-volatile (permanent) memory?

21. How will the system be commanded?

22. What control modes are desired?

23. What is the environment?

24. Should this controller incorporate a stored program capability or be a slave?

25. What interaction is required between axes?

26. What is the expected volume/year?

27. Is this product to be resold under private label?

28. What are the most important design guidelines?

29. Is there a cost budget?

30. Is there a critical time to market?

31. Whose controller have you been using previously?

32. Why are you willing (eager?) to change suppliers?
